SGIM is a non-denominational Christian Ministry seeking to provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to come together for the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the yachting community and through God’s love serve the needs of the Island communities.

Ministry Opportunities

The yachting community is large and fast growing throughout America and the world. Many Christians, after working hard for many years, have retired into a boating lifestyle. Some have sold their homes in order to live on a boat full time. Prior to this lifestyle change, they had a church family with which to grow spiritually, many having served in the mission’s field. Now that they have retired and made this lifestyle change they experience a spiritual emptiness and disconnection from the Body of Christ.

SGIM provides the ability for Christians to serve the Kingdom while enjoying the boating life-style.  Our experience of owning a yacht and staying at marinas up and down the east coast, has increased our awareness that the boating community at large - also needs to hear about what Christ did for them on the cross, many are broken and need hope.  They need to see Christ’s love poured out into their lives in tangible ways.  We’ve learned that all of the wealth that this world offers, doesn’t compare to all that God has created for us, and all of the blessings that He has for us, as we come to know and trust Him, and live for Him.  We must share with this group of people how much God loves them, accepts them, and forgives them.  Everyone needs to realize their purpose in this life, and what the meaning of life offers, and the hope that resides in a relationship with Christ Jesus – and we want to be His hands and feet to the boating community.

When we think of sharing Christ’s love with others, we most often think first of the conditions of humanity, the extreme needs of the homeless, starving, suffering, and the lost.  The reality and truth is that the affluent are also broken and searching to fill a void that material things and wealth cannot fill.  Reaching the lost, regardless of what position they hold in life, is SGIM’s priority and mission.  Trust and relationship is needed to be able to gain access into the boating community.  We are hopeful that boating will help us build a bridge of hope, as we show Christ’s love to all we meet along our travels, and as we serve in missions.

Throughout the Bible, boats were used in various ways.  Scripture makes reference to boats 52 times.  Jesus used a boat to teach the gathering on shore.  Jesus fell asleep on a boat that was tossed by wind and waves during a storm, then walked on the water to make a point.  The Lord gives us many different ways to reach the lost, and He uses common interests like boating, to open the door for us to share His love and Good News.  In 1 Corinthians 9:20-22, Paul says that “We must become all things to all men, so that we may by all means save the lost.”

This is a yachting ministry, which provides for access to the wealthy and poor alike. The mission’s field is the Bahamian and Caribbean Islands. “Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim his praise in the islands” Isaiah 42:12. We tend to think of these islands as ‘paradise’ not knowing that only a short distance away from the luxury hotels and the white sandy beaches is a world of extreme poverty. In many of the islands for example, poverty stricken villages exist. Families live in poorly built one-room shanties, with many not knowing where their next meal will come from.

SGIM desires to make a difference in these people’s lives and see the revival that is taking place around the world, extend to these islands. Our volunteers come together as a support group under established missionaries that are located throughout the islands. We believe that God has called us to help facilitate church plantings, construction of community centers, hurricane relief, men’s, women’s and children’s ministries to the islands.
